How to Set up Basic Tracking:

Now that we have gotten Google Tag Manager connected in the previous article let’s set up some tracking to see how many conversions we get!

First we need to navigate to the main Google Tag Manager page and click on variables on the left side of the screen:

From here we will need to enable the variable we will be tracking which is called “Click URL” this can be done by clicking the configure button in the top right and checking the “Click URL”

Next we will need to create a trigger for our tag using the variable we just created. Clicking triggers on the left side of the page will take you to where we can create new triggers. Click new > click Trigger Configuration > find “All elements” under “Click” > select “Some clicks” > Select from the drop down menu 1.page URL 2.Contains and for the last box “Thank-you” > click save and name your variable.

Finally we will need to enable the tag which can be done by clicking “Tags” on the left side > Clicking new > Tag configuration > Google Analytics: GA4 Event > Select your original tag created from the drop down menu, used to link the page > name your event (Purchase etc.)  > click Triggering > select your Variable > click save > enter a name for your tag.

Now all we need to do is save this new version of our google tag manager using the top right submit button and you can now track if a purchase has been made!
