(in response to new regulations effective on October 13, 2023)

 

This article is a guide for Alberta retailers who are still running our 'Bare Menu' on their website. Since AGLC relaxed their age verification policy for online cannabis sales, you only need to run the Full Menu moving forward.


The primary change is the shift from a Hard Age Gate to a self-attestation procedure like other provinces. You must have a soft age gate up on your website to run a Full Menu.

Key Changes

Self-Attestation: Retailers can now use self-attestation as the primary age-gating procedure. This means customers can simply attest to their age, without the need for a Hard Age Gate / age-verification with physical ID.
 

Full Menu vs. Bare Menu: Given these changes, retailers will revert to using only the Full Menu.

  2. Inform all staff about the changes.
      
  3. Ensure you have a self-attestation age gate active.
     
     
  4. Depending on your current menu configuration, there are specific adjustments you'll need to make in Buddi and/or your website.

    Please refer to the different Menu Configuration types below and the corresponding actions you should take.

 


Menu Configuration #1

Full Menu only (Age-Restricted)

 

If your online menu has the 'Age-Restricted Content' feature enabled, then it would look like this:

  1. Disable the 'Age-Restricted Content' feature in the Admin Portal: go to Store Settings > Online Menu: Configuration
  2. Uncheck 'Age-Restricted Content'
  3. Hit 'Save'


 

Menu Configuration #2

Full Menu only (protected by Buddi's Hard Age Gate)

  1. Disable the Hard Age Gate in the Admin Portal: go to Store Settings > Online Menu: Configuration > select 'No Age Gate'
  2. Ensure 'Age-Restricted Content' is unchecked
  3. Hit 'Save'


 

Menu Configuration #3

Full Menu only (protected by Hard Age Gate with a 3rd party provider)

  1. Disable the Hard Age Gate with your 3rd party provider
  2. Verify your Full Menu settings in the Admin Portal: go to Store Settings > Online Menu:  Configuration:
  3. 'No Age Gate' should be selected
  4. 'Age-Restricted Content' should be unchecked
  5. Hit 'Save'
     

     

Menu Configuration #4

2-path solution: using both Full Menu + Bare Menu

With the easing of these restrictions, you'll only require the Full Menu moving forward.

  1. Disable the Hard Age Gate in the Admin Portal
  2. Sign in and select your 'Full Menu' account in the top-right dropdown. This is typically labelled as the city that your store is located in.
  3. Go to Store Settings > Online Menu: Configuration > select 'No Age Gate'
  4. Ensure 'Age-Restricted Content' is unchecked
  5. Hit 'Save'
  6. Remove the 'Bare Menu' page from your website, including all associated links/buttons

Menu Configuration #5

Bare Menu only

With the easing of these restrictions, you'll only require the Full Menu moving forward.

  1. Disable the Hard Age Gate in the Admin Portal
  2. Sign in and select your 'Full Menu' account in the top-right dropdown. This is typically labelled as the city that your store is located in.
  3. Go to Store Settings > Online Menu: Configuration > select 'No Age Gate'
  4. Ensure 'Age-Restricted Content' is unchecked
  5. Hit 'Save'
  6. Remove the 'Bare Menu' page from your website, including all associated links/buttons
  7. Ensure that the correct menu script is embedded into your webpage.
  8. Sign into your website builder account
  9. Go to the website editor
  10. Click on the Full Menu page
  11. Compare the menu script in your code block with the menu script found in your Full Menu account's Admin Portal > Store Settings > Online Menu: Configuration page
