This is a different problem from the printer being down, and it has a different answer.
If nothing at all is printing, start with Why isn't anything printing? instead.
How to tell which orders printed
The order queue stays quiet about printing when everything is working. A chit that printed normally leaves no mark on the order at all.
You only see something when there is a problem. A small printer icon appears just after the order number:
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Nothing | The chit printed. This is almost every order |
| Amber printer icon | The chit is waiting to print |
| Red printer icon | The chit failed to print |
Hover over the icon for the plain English version.
For the full picture on one order, open it. The order detail panel says Printed 2:14 PM or Not printed, right next to the Reprint button.
Reprinting
Reprint is available in two places, and they exist for different situations:
- On the order row, in the overflow menu. Use this when you are working through a stack of orders and spot one that needs another chit
- In the order detail panel, next to the print status. Use this when you have opened a specific order to check what happened to it
A reprinted chit is identical to the original, with one difference: it carries a large *** REPRINT *** banner above the order type.
Why the banner matters: two identical chits sitting in a tray is how one order gets picked, bagged, and handed out twice. The banner makes it obvious which is which at a glance.
Common reasons one order didn't print
The order arrived while the printer was out of paper or offline
The chit was held rather than lost. It prints on its own when the printer recovers. The amber icon on the row tells you it is still waiting.
The order came in during a very busy recovery
If a printer was offline for a long stretch and a lot of orders piled up, the most recent 20 print automatically on reconnect and the rest are marked for reprint. This stops a printer spending ten minutes producing a wall of paper.
Those orders show the amber icon. Reprint the ones you still need.
The chit printed and someone took it
Worth ruling out before troubleshooting. If Buddi says Printed with a time, a piece of paper came out of that printer at that time. Check the tray, the floor behind the printer, and whether a colleague picked it up.
The order was placed, then cancelled
Chits print the moment an order is placed, not when staff accept it. That is deliberate, because waiting for someone to accept an order puts us right back to needing somebody watching a screen.
The cost is that a cancelled order, or one whose payment failed, has sometimes already printed. A wasted chit costs a cent. A missed order costs a customer.
If an order shows as failed
A red icon means the printer actively reported a problem while printing that chit, rather than simply not getting it.
- Check the printer for a paper jam or a partly open cover
- Clear it, then Reprint that order
- If it fails again on a printer that otherwise looks healthy, contact support with the order number
