All of this lives in Store Settings → Printer Settings. You need store settings access, which is the same permission that covers the rest of a location's configuration.
Moving the printer to a different spot in the store
Just move it. Unplug it, move it, plug it back into power and the network.
It will reconnect on its own. Nothing needs changing in Buddi.
Worth thinking about where it goes: put it where staff assemble orders, not next to the till. The chit is the work ticket, so it wants to be where the picking happens. That is often not where the POS terminal is, and it needs a power socket and a network point.
Replacing a printer that has died
You do not need to start from scratch. Use Replace printer on the Printer Settings page.
- Set the new printer up with the same setup link you already have
- It takes over automatically
We notice that the hardware behind the link has changed, accept it, and make a quiet note in your admin saying so. We do not block it, because a broken printer on a Saturday is not the moment to be turned away by software.
If you have lost the setup link, open Printer Settings and copy it again. It is shown in full with a copy button and a QR code.
Buying a replacement
Stick to the models on our supported list. If you buy something else, it will not work, and the money is gone.
Check the exact part number before ordering, especially on mC-Print3, where some versions do not have a network socket at all. A reseller will happily sell you a Bluetooth or wifi-only model that cannot do this job.
Adding a second printer
Not supported yet. Each location can have one printer.
Do not enter your setup link into a second printer. It looks like it should work and it does not. Both printers end up asking for the same orders, and we have to pick one and ignore the other. You can read what happens in What the printer messages mean.
If you want a second printer, tell us. We are tracking who asks.
Reissuing the setup link
Reissue setup link generates a brand new link and permanently stops the old one working.
Use it if the link has ended up somewhere it should not have, for example pasted into a shared document or sent in an email thread outside your business. The link is effectively a password for that printer.
After reissuing, you must enter the new link into the printer. Nothing prints until you do. Do not press this button during trading hours unless you are standing at the printer ready to update it.
Removing a printer
Remove printer disconnects it from Buddi entirely.
After that, the order queue goes back to looking exactly as it did before you ever had a printer. No status chip, no printer icons on orders, nothing. Online orders carry on exactly as they did before, you just go back to watching the screen for them.
The printer itself keeps its settings. If you add it again later you will need to issue a fresh setup link and enter it.
Turning printing off without removing the printer
On the Printer Settings page there is a toggle: Print a chit for every online order.
Switch it off and the printer stays connected and configured but stops producing chits. Useful if you want to pause printing for a day without unpicking the setup.
